Well, everyone has to take into account the fact that there are female-to-male transgenders who do exactly what Clyde has done. Pass, often very successfully, as a male despite being biologically female.
It's not difficult to lower your voice, or to walk with a male's walk. Women lead from their hips, guys lead from their shoulders. Once you change that conception of walking, and put your feet straight out (women tend to walk in a bit of an S shape, as its easier with our hips), it's not all that hard. A pair of guy's pants, a binding shirt, and seriously, no one can tell. If you have good bone structure, you can get away with being a femmy-looking guy. If you have more delicate features and really want to male it up, then a little bit of makeup goes a long way.
It's -really- not that hard. At all. Clyde could easily pull it off. If I can pass for a guy with no raised eyebrows? HE can totally do it.
Also, mrrrr, long hair is awesome. I just cut mine all off. U_U

I agree with Clover completely on this one.
There are lots of girls who pull of the 'I'm a guy' thing, and no one ever notices. You just don't know because... well, you don't notice.
The only road bump I see Clyde having is parental reactions.
And Hassan's not a doofus. >=o
Edit: I'll take the scruffy guys then, Clover. ^_^

But isn't it still difficult to stop swaying your hips? because the way a female's spine attaches to her pelvis is different than a guys, which is why we have a natural sway when we walk that's difficult for most guys to pull off.
i've never tried though, so i wouldn't know.

no, it's not hard. It's just getting used to a new way of doing it. Takes a bit of practice.

Juuust popping in to say: The forum is pretty awesome for accepting Jones' decision about Clyde, but over on LJ people have been a lot angrier. Before the reveal some people were actually saying that they would stop reading the comic because they couldn't have their "hawt yaoi boisexx0rz" during discussions. And it didn't get any better afterwards. I personally think it's really shallow to stop reading a comic because of the gender of one character, but that's just me. Also: HI QUAT. *flees*

well, i kinda think that people who use the forum (even lurkers) are closer to jones. or something. they seem like it at least.
(with the exception of me cause i've never been to a con...)
but that's ridiculous. i mean, yeah, i'm a bit sad we can't have a clyde/murphy yaoi fest, but at least now murphy can flip his shit over clyde being...uh...clydette.

The only road bump I see Clyde having is parental reactions There might be a reason he's been missing a while and they're only now starting to look around. I know Clyde is nineteen--if I remember correctly?--but technically, you can put out a missing person's report after 48 hours, and then the police start looking. And since the search has the highest likelihood of success within the next 72 hours, they look hard and they look fast. My uncle used to work for the OPP (our provincial police force here in Canada) and he's had to do some Missing Persons cases. If they suspect icky--like, say, a certain someone being on a boat that just friggin got hijacked (and this, I also wonder about. How has no one missed a REALLY BIG BOAT yet!?)--they'll be all over it like stink on shit. So I'm thinking Clyde's relationship with old Mumsie and Popsie are probably not the best they could be. Quite possibly due to the fact that he goes around referring to himself as Clyde. --Also, guys, I'm pretty sure Clyde is TG. Note how we're first introduced to this comic BY Clyde. He serves as our unofficial narrator. vampirates.comicgenesis.com/pages/001.html 'people like me', and then we get this: vampirates.comicgenesis.com/pages/004.html. He is addressing the audience directly--kind of smashing the fourth wall, but whatever, he's cute so we'll let it slide. Do, however, note that even when it's between you, me and the tree over there, he refers to himself quite distinctly as male. Like, goes out of his way to point that out, actually. Cause I don't know about you, but when I introduce myself to new people, I don't go, "Hi, My name's Clover, and I just happen to be a girl! <3". It sounds like he's getting the awkward questions out of the way, and making it very obvious that He Is Male. I'm thinking that's pretty transgender to me. Not transsex, since so far as I'm aware, he's not had surgery. But he's definitely on that end of the spectrum. Or not? Feel free to shoot me down, guys. I'm running away with my mouth. Also, HELLO TO ARISON! You're new to the forums, so here's just a quick hello to you! We're nice, I promise. Except Trey. Mind your spleen. She'll snooker it, but it's mostly painless. >XD And yeah. You know what? Fuck the lj, if they can't get their heads out of their asses. I think.. and this is elitist leik whut, but the lj seems to be the fanbrats. "Leik omg ze buttsekks is ruined? Wryyyyy" sort of thing. And then you get the forum. Where we, for the most part, tend to think about the comic a little deeper. Or at least, with a little more maturity. Generally. So yeah. If they don't want to read a comic where there's a TG charrie, or even a surprise!Girl charrie? well, to hell with them, then. Especially if they're gonna be rude about it. Anyways, enough of my rant. Hi again, Arison (another Toronto fan ee!) ETA: Also, Fae, a good way to train yourself out of swaying your hips is to wear guy's jeans low on your hips, and fill the pockets with stones. You look like a moron, but you walk pretty straight. Also, girls bounce more then guys when they walk. Look at brothers, fathers, male-strangers-on-the-street. Guys, unless they're eye-crossingly twee, tend to shuffle a bit.

Hee, thanks. :D Technically I think I joined last summer, it's just... taken a while to say anything.
And yeah, the LJ fandom's full of brats. I actually find it kind of offensive and demeaning to women, like how in every series the girl is just the cockblock between the two guys who obviously OMGlove each other.

Yay! Lurkers!
Oh, and about the LJ people getting angry about Clyde being a girl, that's just stupid -_-. I mean, they are still the same character as before. He still has the same mental and emotional patterns as he did before. All it does is add more depth. Oh Noz! Depth!
I mean, I've read lots of stories where characters turn out to be a different gender, and it's never bothered me any (except, to an extent, Fruits Basket, because the author turned every single gay or bi character to straight in the end).
Also, is everyone really so shocked by the new update? I figured it out last update, when Remy looked at the newspaper. I thought everyone else did too.
I hope Clyde's real name is as good as his brothers, though I still want him to use Clyde. Also, perhaps this means we will finally find out hwo the real Clyde died! I've been wanting to find that out for ages.
Also, I bet you anything that Murphy will not allow Clyde to sleep in bed with him again *sigh*.

I respectfully disagree on the Trasgender issue. It seems to me that this was triggered by a bout of Greif over her brothers... Redeath? Most transgenders know from an early age that they are the wrong sex. Cyldette seems to have developed a seperate personailty in response to her desire to keep her brother alive... more alive than he was... ergo directly from grief. It is common for someone who is greiving to adopt the traits of the dead. I believe though that Clydette has taken this to an extreme and almost created a seprate pesona of it, one that seems to be domintate above the one she had before the death of her brother. Ahhh but I am applying my major to a comic... I am such a nerd forgive me

kinda like what mrslock just said about how cyldette became cylde later in life but I'm wondering if maybe s.he isn't really TG in the whole "I think I'm supposed to be a guy" but more "i'm grieving about the loss of my brother and this is how I deal with it" or even s.he's just cross-dressing to attempt to hide. Because the missing add was for a female.
Also, hello to the newcomers! and that's shitty what they're saying on the LG. I mean at first, being a fangirl, i was all like "aww no murphyXclyde yaoi" but honestly if that's the only thing they were reading for that's a) sad B) shallow and C) really just all out kinda shitty.

Like people said, walking different is all about practice, and once someone shows you the actual differences, it's easy to do it. I can walk like a girl. It feels so weird, though. xD
I don't think Clyde really gives that much thought about the whole transgendering thing. The whole point isn't really to change gender because he doesn't like being a girl, like most people. I see it a little more as a very advanced theatrical sex-change. He's trying to look like someone else, who happens to be of a different gender. It's a very superficial sex-change (although for deep reasons).

welcome mrslockgamer. also, yea, your post pretty much said what i was thinking, but i wasn't too sure on what constitutes as a TG but i also think it's just a way of dealing with grief.
