I hate the fact that nothing changed. This sucks, majorly. But I voted, so that totally gives me my Right to Bitch.

I got to vote for the first time this year. Yay, democracy! I wanted to vote for this lady that rode a horse naked through the city for some protest but she wasn't in my riding I'm glad voting is done though, the past couple days has been my step dad shoving his opinions down my throat. He's a very opinionated man and I just feel like smacking him to make him shut up sometimes. Though it made my GRS class amusing for the past while. My teacher's been like "I'm not supposed to tell you my biased opinions but I'm in Canada so I'm going to! *insert amusing bashing of candidates*" We also had great convos. about the Americans' stuff to.

Voted. NDP. The fact that we have more Conservatives, and less minority, makes me a little upset. You think we'd have gotten the clue from the conservative crap-out in the states that maybe the Tories are bad. But nu~u.
Also, Dion's a pussy. I'm sorry, but he is. If the Liberals had picked someone who at least appeared to have a spine, maybe we would have had a Liberal majority. Which, if not ideal, is still a damn sight better IMO then more of the status quo. </opinions>
Doubtless I'll be hearing about this shit for -weeks-.
And now, onto the US elections. Now there's a bloodbath. I feel like fucking Bathory just watching CNN.

I agree with the entirety of Clover's post^^ I, too, voted NDP, though would have been satisfied with Liberal.
Also, what kind of a party calls themselves "Progressive Conservatives"? It's a fucking oxymoron. The Conservative platform also appears to centre around lowering taxes. Personally, I think taxes should be higher with more things paid for by taxes, but then I also think communism would work if people weren't so greedy, so I'll shut up now.

To be fair they're no longer really Progressive Conservatives ... although the Progressive Conservatives were definitely more progressive, as far as conservatives go. But not so much anymore, no. D:
Personally I'm a fan of minority governments, and I'm glad Harper used that sneaky loophole in his election law just to get the same damn thing. Serves him right, and I hope he gets called on it repeatedly and at great length.
I feel like I should be more disappointed, but there was no way we weren't coming out of this with a Conservative government, so this was the best we could otherwise hope for.
THANKS PAT, your province saved us from a Harper majority. :D<3

It wasn't possible for me to even want to vote NDP. Our NDP guy had to drop out because I was discovered he went skinny dipping with a bunch of minor girls and was getting them to body paint him. Ya... we've got some awesome politicians over here.
Definitely agree.

This is the first and ONLY time I will ever say this:
Merci, Quebec. You guys saved our bacon. You rock.
Those words, by the way? NEVER came out of my mouth.
And see.. I happen to think that higher taxes... well, whatever. What pisses me off to no end is the American contingent, their conservatives going "UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE? BUT WE'D HAVE TO RAISE TAXES!" And when people point to Canada as an example of affordable universal health care, they're like, "BUT LE OMG, THE WAITS!"
Which a)Aren't that bad if they think something is genuinely wrong with you---I went from my General Practicioner recommending me to a surgeon to Post-Surgery in four months. Thats 120 days, total, from "WTF is growing on your ankle" to "Now try walking on it." And yeah, they botched the surgery, but the hospital/OHIP is paying for my private psychiatrist--and any medical bills that might pop up. So I would really like to ask any Americans who pull the "but the waits! And the taxes!" what their problem is. I've been working since I was fifteen, and have paid a -pittance- in taxes. The amount I paid in taxes, or would have saved with lower taxes? Totally would not have covered even in the specialist's appointment, never mind the whole hog. In five years of this, I have spent a grand total of maybe, MAYBE, 150. And most of that was on optional scar-removal creams, for fuck's sake.
/rant done.
But yeah. I dunno. I would pay higher taxes. Shit, look at the nordic countries. Higher taxes but free health care AND free higher education. Balls, man, I'd pay through the nose for that Ironic, how the country with the highest taxes has the highest standard of life.
See, thats what happens when your politicians don't pocket your friggin taxes.

Clover: I suppose taxes are higher in Scotland than in Canada, too, as university is free and just about everyone is eligible for a loan to pay for accommodation/books, too. However, we've also got some privatized health care, which is a BIG pet peeve of mine, but the NHS is still pretty decent, with free check-ups and stuff.

I think that the American conservatives that are like that Clover, are probably older people who can afford health insurance and are already out of school.
But also, in America, you CAN get free health care. Thor I can't remember exactly how one goes about it, but it's just saying like 'I can't pay it' or something simple like that.
*shrug* I don't care either way. I have very, very excellent health care(probably one of the best in the country), and schooling for me will not be very expensive.
However, in most places in southern California, FYI, you can not live off of minimum wage. You can't physically move out and survive alone, like you should be able to. So I can see people getting pissed if taxes got raised, because fuck, no one wants a THIRD job.
