en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_substituteBlood substitutes aren't blood at all. By definition, even normal saline liquid, the transparant liquid that they usually put you on by default when you get an IV falls in the category of "blood substitute". We can all agree that salt water is very far from being actual blood, though. The blood substitute they're talking about in the article is Hemopure, which is an oxygen-therapeutic. All it does is replace the red blood cells. Platelets, white blood cells and plasma are still missing to fill up blood's role. Hemopure is also made from chemically altered bovine blood. Not only is it not human blood (although no one ever said Vampirates couldn't feed on animals), you could also argue that it's not really blood at all anymore. =o XD It is an interesting idea, but blood substitutes probably don't apply to vampires. Especially since the whole idea behind a vampire isn't really to suck the liquid in your veins, but more to suck the life flowing through your body. Back when vampires were "created", science didn't know precisely what blood really was for. They just knew that you were pretty fucked when you ran out of it. I also couldn't find prices, but the advanced blood substitutes are apparently not cost-efficient at all. Canadian government being as it is, I don't think it has the money to spare for it. XD

Pft, the state of New york is trying that, and if you don't want it done to you, youre fucking screwed. I personally think that's horrible, making any other person a guinea pig for soemthing they don't want. Kind of like what the goverment did with radioactive milk to orphaned infants. Or the epedemic of DES.
But to be on topic, I wondered this myself, but I doubt that it would truly work for vampires.
