So, this con. (Anime evolution) I was planning on going to with my friend and we were both UBER UBER UBER excited and had it all planned out to stay with her uncle who lives like a block away from it's location... ya about that con. they' just sent out an email saying "opps we made a mistake. The University had something already planned and we can't host it there anymore." I am pissed. Very much so. They can't cancel an event like that a month before it's supposed to be held!! That's so completely unfair!! You'd think someone on the planing committee might've been able to notice that hey, on the weekend AE's supposed to be held the university's doing an orientation and needs the entire school grounds. But no. Instead they wait until after everyone's pre-booked and bought, tickets, hotel accommodations, flights, trains, buses cut short other trips etc. to say "oh, by the way we're either going to have to cancel or maybe we can find somewhere else to put it? Who knows? From the last example of our wonderful organization skills is there anyone who's still got faith in us?" I'll finish my rant now and sign off. I'm just really pissed because of all the time and money I've put into planning this and making my costume and now I won't get to go. I is le sad. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

That really sucks, especially because it's hard to get refunds on a lot of things(i.e. plane tickets).
Well save your costumes for another con, perhaps AX next year?

Oh man. That blows, sucks and bites.
On a lesser scale, I had been really hoping to go to a con where all the major voice actors for Devil May Cry were going to be. (Which con? I have no clue... XD) Of the only two people who would have been able to take me, one's car got in a wreck that wasn't their fault and the other's broke down... On the way to pick me up...
But yours is worse, seriously.

I'm lucky in the fact that it was close enough I was planning on driving but there's one person who'd cut short their trip in Japan just to go the the con. But yes will definately be saving costume. And hoping to go to AN or AX...or both? (both would be fantastic ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) !)

*huggles* you seem like you need one.
that seriously sucks, wouldn't the university have also notified them before there was only a month?

Apparently it's still happening that weekend, but they're in the process of signing for the new location and haven't announced it yet. Keep an eye on the forums! It'll still probably throw a wrench into your travel plans (like where you're staying), but at least it's not canceled!
I'd have a heart attack if that happened a month before a con I planned to attend. D: Good luck!

They just sent me an update!!! They've finally found another location to hold it. However, the place where we were planning on staying (for free! yay relatives) was only a block from the original place and now is over an hour drive from the new place. stupid *grumble* ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) So now i get to decide if i wanna spend more money on lodging and attempt to find new place to stay or spend money and time driving there and back every day. But at least it's still happening that's some thing ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

You could always just sleep at the convention. I know a lot of cons have the all-night anime, and while I don't recommend it, it is possible to be sneaky and unhygenic and con-camp.
Did it once. I don't recommend it, but if the need is there.....well.

I don't recommend it, but if the need is there.....well. It's not that bad if you wash right before you head down to the con, most cons are Friday Saturday Sunday and as long as you seclude yourself away from any of the really greasy types you really only start to have a bit of stank on you towards the late middle/end of Sunday. Also, if it's a hotel, nice people will often let people use their showers if you have the courage to ask around a bit. LONG RAMBLING STORY ALERT: In fact, one year for Origins we (a dear friend and I) bought two huge bulk packs of Zest and some cheap towels from the dollar store (about 270 of them) and we found the stinky people and handed them soap and a towel and drug them off to our hotel room and forced them to shower in exchange for Pocky* we were widely regaled as the saviors of the Con. The CCG room feared our coming, Vampire LARP was never the same (The Storytellers worked us into the LARP Plot) and the dealer's room gave us some hand outs and hung out with us and took us places with them in gratitude. (We actually got more than we spent on the towels/soap back in free hand outs, and free food and got to meet a lot of cool people and hang out with them.) *Pocky in conventions is like cigarettes in prison. Tell your friends.

Haa, pockey and yaoi are currency, man. CURRENCY.
Though badass story. I wanna try it, but I'd feel uncomfortable letting random scuzzbuckets into the room.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!! Sooooo A little late but I've been working at 5 everymorning and no time to post but anyhow not point.... The point is I went to Anime Evolution last weekend and it was my first con ever and it was so incredibly fantastically amazing and i reallyreallyreallyreally wanna go to another one again!!!!! And because I was so fantactically amazing I'm gonna give ya'll a little bit of a diary of highlights. Feel free to not read or read as your attention span allows. I'm just uber excited so feel like telling who ever'll listen. soooo.... here it goes.... Acilf's Trip To Anime Evolution, UBC, Vancouver, BC, CanadaTrip started off not so cool. Yet another reason why however much I love where I live, living on and island sucks. One of the ferries broke so even though we got to the ferries at 6:30 we didn't actually bord until after 11pm. Thus we got bored and approx 20-30 photos of the following type were taken.... ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03803.jpg) But hey, at least the local radio was nice to us and when we called in at 10 to request a song and inform them of our misfortune they were awesome enough to play our song and put us on the radio. ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03824.jpg) "OMG Ferry!!" Yes the ferry eventually did arrive and after an hour and forty-five minuet saling time and a couple hours (or less I don't actually remember) We arrived at my friend's uncle's place (where we were to stay) at around 1:15am. ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03842.jpg) Finally we make it to UBC campus, host to Anime Evolution 2008 and are we very glad to have pre-ordered tickets because this was a fraction of the line for buying your passes. Our line was at max 3 people long. ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03868.jpg) We found two Yunas, they were from the wrong game but close enough. ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03873.jpg) Though I did continue my quest to find the right Yuna...And eventually succeeded! I loved this guys hair!!! ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03928.jpg) Came across a group at the bottom of the stairs dancing to "Under the Sea" ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03936.jpg) The Con took place in two different buildings so while we were walking from one to the next I heard an odd sound coming from a garbage can. Being the curious person I went to investigate and found this.... ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03983.jpg) ...A Squirrel!!!! He jumped out at me and scared my friend. Oh!! Also found the cutest Link EVER. There was a little princess with him too. I've got a picture of the two of them somewhere. Will probably end up posting it later. ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03960.jpg) And the last picture of this post is just one of a couple who where really cool but I don't know where from. If anyone does feel free to enlighten me! ![](http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/acilf/DSC03982.jpg) Other highlights that are not photoed: * AMV Hell 4. FANTASTIC and some of the people in the audience were editors/creators involved with AMV HEll 4 * The Walkoff to pick the top Male idol of the con. Needless to say it was bloody amusing. Have great videos of Roy Mustang (my fav. if i figure out how I will link them in some way) The Sunday it was pissing rain. Instead of returning to AE my friend and I decided to go to Metrotown, which is a giant shopping mall on the mainland. So we went, were over whelmed by the massive amounts of stores until....we found Sakura Media! Yay for spending massive money on manga! and an adorable Kyo plushi that's going to hang from my rear view mirror. I'm pretty sure the employees loved us. We got a whole buncha coupons to spend more money. After spending massive money we went to play DDR. XD and came across a group of other con-goers (in cosplay goodness) One of whom we actually knew...ish But ya... that's all for now. To those who actually managed to read to the end of this post. Congrats! I hope you enjoyed it. Maybe if I get some kind of skill (or someone tells me) I can find some way to more easily share my photos instead of having to upload them six time to various different locations to finally have an IMG thingy so you can see them. 'Cause there were some pretty cool costumes that deserve to be shared.
