"Oh, of course not!" Alba responded. "I'm rubbish at calculus; I'm only taking it because I need it for my degree."

Alice chuckled. "That's pretty much the same with me. I needed credits from other departments and as my luck would have it calculus was one of the few courses that had space and fit in my time table." Alice feigned a grimace and shudder. "Calculus. Damnation to the cruel beast who thrust it upon us poor students!"

Vander thought Alice kinda sounded like a rambling idiot. Still, that might have just been because she was new. After the girls started chatting, he mumbled a quick "I've got to get going..." he glanced at his watch, it was already seven, and he was going to need to study for his physics exam in four days. Fortunately it was Thursday, and his roommate was most likely not throwing a loud party.
"Nice to meet you two," raising a hand to each of them in a slight wave farewell, he slipped down the hallway.
-------
Braez placed a hand on Rany's shoulder, he had easily kept up with her and now he had to make sure he kept a watchful eye. "You shouldn't be wandering around the campus without a guide, you'll get lost." The truth was, anyone would get lost on this campus. It was a maze of corridors and rooms. Every building had an outside door on the top story too, but that was for good reason.
-------
Vander stopped, he was so distracted by thoughts of his latest encounter that he didn't see Rany and Braez until he was only feet away. The first emotion he'd shown all day, surprise. He almost stuttered, except his kind don't do that, and finally managed to speak, "Braez?" The older man did not seem the least bit surprised to see Vander, on the other hand, and answered with a friendly smile.

Rany gasped, as she felt a hand on her shoulder. She whipped around, and saw Braez. He had come so quietly, he was almost...silent. Rany looked at him, analyzing him with her strange eyes. He didn't seem to want to harm her, but rather to help. She felt a sympathy, protectiveness, and caring radiate out of him. She smiled.
"You shouldn't be wandering around the campus without a guide, you'll get lost" As he looked back at her, Rany felt strange. As if she had seen him before. There was something vaguely familiar about the man, but Rany couldn't quite recall what it was.
"Oh, I guess I am kind of..."
"Braez?" Rany was cut off by another voice.
She turned around again, seeing the boy that had been with Alba. The one which ran after the girl in the union. Just like the older man, he had been...almost silent. It was then that Rany began to doubt her hearing.
Rany stood still. For one long moment, everything seemed to remain unmoving. The boy stared at ...Braez was it? On his face was genuine surprise. He looked almost as surprised as she felt. Up to today, actually up to after that freaky nurse stuck a needle in her arm, no one had been able to sneak up on Rany without her sensing something strange at least. In the span of three minutes it had happened twice. It unnerved and scared her.
Rany also felt the strange dizziness and euphoria slowly creep back. She tilted her head to the side and looked up at Braez. He was smiling warmly at the boy. She noticed that his hand was still on her shoulder. It seem to calm her down, and she let herself relax.

Alice exchanged a few more words before muttering some excuse and slipping away from Alba. She made her way to the housing office were she got keys and directions to her room on campus. When she got to her room (third floor corner unit on a quiet section of the university grounds) she found her two bags had been safely delivered to her room (courtesy her brother probably) and there was a folder lying on her desk.
Alice flipped open the folder. Welcome to the University of Manitoba. Here at the U of M we strive to blah blah blah.
Alice flipped through the standard pages stating how good the campus was, information about the student food plans and medical plans and funding available, as well as a list of important numbers you can call - counsellors, security, lost and found, etc. One page caught Alice's eye. The the paper of the folded up note was thicker than the rest and there was an old fashioned wax seal on it. Breaking the seal Alice read the note.
Welcome. You are one of the chosen to attend additional studies. Your attendance is mandatory. The first meeting shall be held tonight in Building D room 046. You are to arrive at 11:55pm. Be silent. Tell no one. All shall be explained later. Thank you.
Alice blinked a couple of times and stared at the note. She re-read it. Then re-read it again. She flipped over and checked the back for any other writing and sifted through all the other papers looking for any other out of the ordinary messages. Finding nothing she picked the mystery letter back up. "What the hell is going on? What kind of $u*ked up school did my brother send me to?"

Alba returned to her room to find a note had been pushed under her door, thick paper with a wax seal. She tore it open, bemused.

Alba stared at the note. Somehow, she expected that Rany and Vander had received similar notes, as she was fairly certain this had to do with their strange shared abilities.

Teal sat on the roof of the Art department with her elbow propped up on one knee as she smoked a cigarette. She liked to sit up here and take time out from her studies, she liked watching all of the people comming and going. Most of all she liked to get away from what she knew was really going on down there at this time of the month. She hated being here, she didn't even want to come to this country, let alone come to this university. It was all her big brothers fault, if he hadn't have been what he was, if he hadn't have come to this place, they never would have assumed that she was the same and forced her to come here too. She closed her eyes and silently berrated herself for thinking such things. She loved her brother and he couldn't help that he had those so-called 'special abilities' any more than she could help that she didn't have them. She wasn't like her brother, but no amount of pleading with head of the new 'Advanced Studies' would convince him to let her go back home, she knew too much, she knew too little. And then her brother had suggested that her abilities may still be latent. She could have slapped him!She took a long drag on her smoke to finish it before butting it out on the sole of her shoe, then slowly blew the smoke out as she thought about heading back to the drawing studio. Her long ruby hair floated out to one side as it was caught in a sudden gust of wind and her pale blue eyes caught site of another new student arriving. Straight away she knew he was one of 'them', one of the 'special students', he was more nervous than anyone else, he had a hunted look on his face, like a rabbit when it catches the first scent of a fox, his eyes darting around trying to find where that scent was comming from. Teal sighed loudly. She knew the signs from growing up with her brother, but she always wondered what it was really like to feel all of the things her brother did. She pulled the thick paper out of her pocket and looked at it again. D, 046, 11:55 tonight... as if she'd tell anyone, it was bad enough she was invited... no, ordered -it was mandatory after all- to go along. What would they do about her when they finally realized she wasn't one of them... ((this is the first time I've RPd so I apologize in advance. Just kick me if I totally screw up or if this is too long or if I'm babbling, I'm babbling aren't I?))

Alba paced around her room. It was 11:30 pm. She didn't want to go to this meeting at all; it made her nervous. But what choice did she have? She could drop out, but what would her parents say? And she liked it there, aside from the weird "additional studies". Why would they even call it "additional studies"? It hardly made it sound appealing; who wanted to go to extra class?!
She glanced at the clock. 11:35. She could pretend to be sick. No, that wouldn't work, she hadn't come down with anything in years. She was starting to wonder if it was even possible for her lot to get ill. It could be, of course, but if it wasn't they'd know she was pretending.
11:40. So what if they knew she was pretending? They didn't scare her, did they? If she was being honest with herself, yeah, they did. She wasn't afraid of getting into trouble; she was old enough that sort of thing didn't matter to her anymore. No, she was afraid of what they would do to her. Would they punish her? Attack her? It was 11:45 now, and she was being stupid. They weren't going to attack her. She should just get her arse into gear and go. She didn't want to be late.
Alba picked up her handbag, preparing to leave. She made sure she had her swipe card and her keys, to get back into the building and the room, respectively. She took out her keychain, attached to her kubotan, and placed it in her coat pocket, holding the kubotan tightly in her hand. It was stupid, really. They weren't going to attack her, and if they were, a kubotan wasn't going to be much use, being designed for use against petty, untrained criminals, but it was a comfort to have it, anyway. She just hoped she wouldn't be compelled to use it.

Braez and Vander shared an unbroken look, Vander completely perplexed, while Braez was calm and seemed as if he had been waiting to see the boy. Vander realized how long he had been staring, while the man just smiled patiently, and the boy mumbled something about needing to study, then rushed off down the hall past the two. When he was far enough away, he slowed and released the tension in his muscles. Braez... that name hadn't crossed Vander's mind in a long time, and it was odd that he found him here.
Braez moved his hand from Rany and crossed them in front of his chest, "Well, I suppose I should get going. We'll see you at 11:55, sharp." With a wink, he walked off in the opposite direction as Vander.

As soon as both Braez and the boy were out of sight, Rany suppressed a shudder. She was alone, but felt as if she was watched. Shaking it off, she reached into her pocket to take out a crumpled note. Braez reminded her of the meeting she was invited to.
As she looked at the peice of paper, Rany thought about how she got the note. It appeared in the empty hallway, as if someone was waiting for her. If there was someone there, they must have been hidden, and silent. Silent. The boy and Braez. She remembered how Braez mentioned the note, even though she hadn't said anything about it. She would find out in the meeting.
Rany looked at her watch to check the time. It was 11:40. Almost time for the meeting. Rany began to panic. What was this building D? How would she know where it was? Will it have a huge D on the front so that students know where it is? Or will it look like a large beached Dolphin, just like the union looked like a beached whale. How would she get out of the union anyways? Didn't Braez tell her that she shouldn't travel without a guide before he left? And the other boy left too, so she couldn't ask him. Sighing, Rany began to walk through the hallways. Soon, a smile appeared on her face and she began to skip merrily through them..the euphoria had come completely returned.
(Yay! Dragoness joined!)

Alba approached room 046 with some trepidation. What would she find here? She opened the door and peered round. No one was here yet, which made her even more nervous. She hated being the first person to arrive.
The room looked to be used for tutorials ordinarily, with a circle of chairs around the perimeter. Alba entered and took a chair on the opposite side of the room, placing her handbag on the floor and taking a book out to read while she waited for everyone else to arrive.
